The Journal of Diplomacy & Policy Research
A publication of the Institute of Diplomacy & Policy Research
The Journal is a publication of the Institute of Diplomacy and Policy Research (IDPR). The confrontations to national authority and global security are never greater than they are today. Since the end of the Cold War, principles of international law and governance have been contested by old and new actors alike on the global stage. Non-traditional threats challenge the parameters of national sovereignty and the principles of supranationality.
In light of these challenges, the issues surrounding global governance and its evolution are ever more important. The uses of diplomacy, national power, and international institutions to achieve a more equitable, peaceful and sustainable global order rely upon effective, but accountable international organizations, the global rule of law and the empowerment of the individual across borders and cultures.
The purpose of the Institute is to bring together research and practical experience into the same room to develop fresh perspectives and constructive ideas on the resolution of global security challenges. Academic study has been deeply siloed into abstract theory and quantitative analysis to the detriment of practical knowledge and experience gained in the field. Practitioners in the field--working diplomats, defense ministry officials, and international civil servants--are often too occupied in reacting to global challenges that they have no space to formulate preventative solutions.
The Institute intends to create a space in which theory and practice come together to address crucial challenges and reach the objectives of good global governance: furthering peace and prosperity while elevating individuals' rights to human dignity and social progress.
It will focus on specific examples from history in which tools of diplomacy and policy worked to alleviate crises, succeeded in achieving goals of global governance, and helped to better outline the structures of global governance.
The Institute hopes to provide fresh perspectives and constructive ideas on the resolution of global security challenges through peaceful means and discussion and analysis of statecraft and foreign policy within the realm of global governance and security.
